{Terrific Tuesday} Afternoon in the Garden

After a crazy Monday & a busy Tuesday morning it was nice to relax in the garden, watering, weeding & squirting the little naked ones with water while they squealed in delight.

After a few more harvest, my garden is coming along AWESOMELY! I just want to plant more & more, but seem to be fast running out of room.

Strawberries at the back, Capsicum & Lettuce in the other bed {this one also has peas at the other end}

Fennel & Beetroot, oh & Carrots {strawberries & more beets at the other end}

Also wanted to share pictures of my fabric flowering native. I have several of these in the yard & they are truly amazing.

And of course there is always new life in spring & our birds seem to have been getting busy

{Sunny Sunday} A day in the Garden

When I am not sewing {or pretending to look after the household} I am out in my garden. Not something I have always loved doing but the more it shows me the more I love it & since the veggie gardens have gone in and I have actually managed to keep everything alive, well I love to be out there more {& would like to plant the whole yard as a massive veggie garden}.

I have one more large silver bed ready to fill & a few more pots. Will get more celery, capsicum & a few other things. Pots are for blueberries & raspberries {hopefully}. Then there is another space near my laundry that we are about to make over {and full with wonderful compost I stole from my sisters house today} for my floor growers, so melons, cucumbers & possibly pumpkins.

Can't wait to show off my first harvest.

So Sunday we went out to celebrate my Mum's birthday, a wonderful spring day with the family and an even better location.

Given that it has been a while since I made anything for Kaleb or let him pick anything from stock he was offered today & jumped at the chance. He choice a new limited edition number, which thankfully hadn't been added to the store yet. Of course with his choice came one for Kyla too {not that she needs anymore clothes full stop} because we didn't want all out war before we had even left the house.

Yesterday saw our first market at Hillary's.

A wonderful location, amazing view, just a pity that the weather didn't really play the game. Regardless we went, we saw & we came home :) Here are some pictures from the day:

It must be a Saturday type thing because yet again my husband is snoring next to me {man he would die if he knew I had told you all that} and I have just purchased some more fabric. Some for clothing, some for bibs and some for stripe-it nappies & maybe even wetbags.

{Totally Tuesday} A day with no sun

Alright so it wasn't quiet that bad! But after sunning the day away yesterday it was head down today before the weekend market and next store stocking.

So today some pictures of my 'day with no sun', which isn't technically right given there is actually sun coming in the window, but not the same as being outside.

{Sunny Sunday} Father's Day

Another year and yet another Father's Day has been & gone!

After my wonderful sleep in and lovely bacon & eggs we spent the day together as a family. Simple day in the sun, working on the yard & admiring all of the lovely plants. All of the new growth and plans for more {which we actually did this afternoon}.

So after breakfast I got snap happy around the yard, here are a few:

Lettuce patch, but it also has my spuds sprouts coming up too
{YAY everything has grown, even the ones the puddy dog pulled out several times}

Fennel & Beetroot one end
Strawberries the other
{with plenty of space for something else in between}

Tomatos & Onions

Will share more garden pictures in the next few days {blogger isn't playing the game tonight}. My little Mulberry tree is covered in fruit, my apple trees have new shoots & my Silky chicken is just adorable {not to mention my chicken dress loving chicken}

{Fabulous Friday}

What a Fabulous Friday it is today.

A chilli day in Perth. So much so that I am rugged up cutting nappies {well not right this minute}, covered from head to toe in minky fluff. It is soft and luscious but WOW does it make a mess of my house & me.

Along with my little ramble I wanted to show of some pictures of the new design I have been working on. The first one I showed you the other week was nice, but I wasn't sold on the 'entire one style of fabric' so went for a three tone this time and added some pockets {mainly because Kyla is obsessed with things with pockets}

Think that we might offer these as a custom only item, from size 1 - 5. What do you think??

Took a break from the sewing machine, pile of fabric, pins, scissors & metres of cotton invading my living room to head out this chilli Sunday for some new additions to our garden....

Given my currently need to bake all manner of yummy things I thought that a search for 'bake' on Etsy would show some wonderful items.

These cookies look simply adorable. Made from felt by Lindas Krafty Kreations they are a must for any little person's pretend kitchen.

A picture says a thousand words, as they always says and this one is no exception. Something for me to drool over. I discovered this at Lucky Bluebirds Art.

I obviously want to torture myself today because they wooden measuring spoons are just amazing. Something handy, something unique & something I want.now. Out Numbered Novelties.
What will they think of next?
Food on earrings, my children would want to try to eat them or maybe I would want to eat them. They even make ice-creams over at Baby Loves Pink.

Not sure that you want to search the word 'bake' on Etsy if you are hungry either because Oh.My.God there is heaps of yummy looking actual foods on there and now, at this time I want to go and bake :-). Enjoy!

Recently I was contacted by a wonderful woman in FNQ wanting to stock a range of our clothing products. After many confusing emails {that is what small people do to everything} a range for her was decided & I did a heap of ordering. Now the sewing has begun.

I have only made a SMALL start on what is the biggest order I have had for a retailer so far {which is wonderful}. Here is a few pictures from the last few days & I will share more in the coming days/weeks as I work on the finished products.

I recently stumbled across a wonderful group of woman doing a wonderful & giving thing.

Providing not information and excitement but also some wonderful prizes for, well to put it simply, blog hopping.

This wonderful Earth Day giveaway was organised by Jan from Daisy Janie with a total of 11 different blogs participating. I discovered not only another 10 blogs but I also discovered some most amazing organic cotton prints, so many things to add to my wishlist, so many things that I could make with these wonderful fabrics.

{Me} A Relaxing Day in the Garden

Well possibly not so much of the enjoyable but it was a wonderful day none the less.

The weeds lost out, I enjoyed the sun and the children enjoyed a trip to the nursery, complete with steeling apples off the tree :)

Some pruning {the poor chickens had no light due to a plum tree & passion-fruit vine}, some more weeds {you can now see plants in the back garden} and some new planting and the yard is looking awesome. Still a little more to finish off tomorrow but it's awesome to have achieved so much.

So in these wine barrels {which took forever to move} Herbs x 2; Apple Tree x 2; Lime Tree & Mulberry Tree :)

Of course a bonus of my puddy dogs. Czar is always under Zara, he can't not like it too much as he always let's he do it.

We even got new plants for the decking {that for some reason we let die recently}, but no pictures of these, I was slack. Can't wait to redo the back fence & finish the driveway to the shed.

Imagination

Something we all inspire to have ourselves, something we all wish for our children and a place we love to hide. With this in mind here are some finds from Made It this week, to help inspire our children imagination.

I remember having one of these as a small child, I think we all had one. I know that I have two in my house that my little ones got for Easter. These ones are just amazing, so much detail and so fun looking. Head over to Clamity Bolt to take a look.

Don't have enough space for a cubby house? Need something for your small ones to play in, these tee pees are amazing. Joey Jelly Bean have done an awesome job, so much so that I wish I could have one myself.

A different path today for Thursday Treasures, some patterns & fabric for those creative types. So here goes:

Check out this twirl skirt, it is just adorable and looks nice and simple for those non sewers reading here. Go over and check this out, I found it on Etsy.

And what about this fabric combination with the above pattern, I think it would look awesome with a skivvy & leggings for winter even.

OMG Shoes! Imagine how many shoes you could have for your little ones if you had your own pattern. You could be forever replacing shoes or make shoes to match that little outfit.

And lastly this is wrap outfit is just adorable and looks so very functional.

What should we do for the theme next week?? Maybe a focus on the boys in our lives.

I simply can't believe that my littlest woman, my only girl, my baby girl, my last baby is 2 tomorrow. This time 2 years ago I was large, pregnant, uncomfortable and wondering when she would make her arrival. Little did I know that she would be here this time the next day or that my waters would break on the couch or that she would arrive very VERY quickly after contractions started.

That she would be well above average, rolly, polly & beautiful. She opened my eyes and made her way into my heart.

Happy Birthday Kyla

You have changed so much {obviously} since your last birthday, become your own determined little person and girl who knows what she wants & when. You are very much like your brother {and I} and could talk under water, you get extremely frustrated when we can't work out what you are say but for the most part you are confident and understandable. You have the most amazing outlook and love to dance around the room, pull cheeky faces and can make me smile just by giving me your cute look at me face.

You can go from happy to tantrum in under 5 seconds, something which I hope you grow out of sooner rather than later or I might just go mental. You love anything animals and that is all you talk about, 'bok boks' are by far your favourite and you love to wear your chicken dresses.

Your eyes make me melt and your hairs makes everyone comment. You are so little and roll-less compared to when you where smaller and continue to get bigger by the minute {height wise & personality wise I mean}.

You are the sunshine in my day {and your Dad's} and I can't wait to see what the next year with you brings.

I am a very slack member of Blog This a blog designed around participating in challenges, on different things every week. Gives all of us in blog land a chance to branch out and read blogs we wouldn't normally, a really great time vortex!

So this week I decided it was time to jump into a challenge and no better challenge than a photography based one. It gave me a chance to jump back in time.......

To remember one of my favourite views, a view I hope to get back to, enjoy and even live, one day.

This is where I stay on my honeymoon, an amazing Spa Retreat on the side of a hill over looking the amazing South West Coast of Western Australia.

My other favourite view is of sleeping children and there are two reason for no pictures. #1 When my sleeping children well sleep I don't go in or out.... I leave them do just that sleep #2 Would be because my youngest, well doesn't really do sleep very well at all LOL

Appears that all of my creative energy has been focused on clothes lately or clothing related items that the bottoms of little tots are missing out.

With a delivery expected {hopefully next week} I am thinking it might be time to focus some of it onto Nappies. Was looking through old blog posts and it made me realise that I haven't {A} done anything new since the Stripe-It last year or {B} made a ruffle bottom for ages, could nearly say years. {see this post}

It is way to early to be thinking about Christmas already but given how quickly things book I really do need to start planning what/where & when we will be heading off on our yearly family holiday. last year we left it to late but thankfully managed to get my BIL's family holiday house which was lovely but a little to quiet a location for my husband.

So this year I need to work out where. Do we want to hit the beach?

Or the dirt?

Of {my favourite} the forrest?

Every year it is camping and for the moment while the smallest is still in nappies at a caravan park for easy of washing the nappies. So where would you choose?

H.E.L.P me decide, please. {as long as it isn't the second option as that would be a little boring, and well hot}

Better late than never, but I promise these will not disappoint.

First off the rank is something to tickle your taste buds and in time for that dreaded Easter shopping. I recently got some of Harry's Rocky Road for a pregnant friend to cheer her up, it worked and now she has her babe in arms. My wish list for Easter is getting longer by the minute too.....

These adorable petti skirts from Charlipop Kids look amazing, an awesome range of colours. They even have some great specials if you are a member of her facebook page, go and check it out.

I'm currently trying really REALLY hard to not get some of these cute Hug-a-lugs that Vicki over at Bubblebubs has just added to her range of stock items. What is better is that there is no shipping charge on them.

And to finish off today my most favourite sweet shop from the southwest is no online. Oh.My.God I am not sure that my waist line is going to enjoy this. Go on, check out the Candy Cow.

{Random} When I grow up...

Something that has been going through my mind for the last few months is: 'What do I want to be when I grow up?'. Yes in theory I am already grown up, I turned 30 last year but do I really want to return to my pre-child job. Really that is all is was, was a job. Not a career, not something I truly enjoyed, not my calling and certainly not what I thought I would be doing when I 'grew up'.

There are many things that I remember wanting to do when I was younger....

For the longest time I wanted to be a hairdresser, then as I got older I realised I would have to touch other peoples heads, and that totally turned me off! That and I hated doing my own hair how could I do someone else all.day.long.

This was really high on the list, even did some studies in high school towards it and of course work experience. It was the work experience that scared me for life. Oh.My.God I would have to change nappies, how could they expect me to do that?? Honestly, looking back now what was I thinking that the little ones would stay in their nappies for the whole day or better yet just change themselves. If only I knew then what i do now.

This was by far the most random of my ambitions, probably because I was only 5 at the time.

Argh the old fall back faithful, the one I wish I had pursued, the one I wonder if it is too late to start now? Helping little people learn and become the people they want to be. So many questions and still 15 years later so few answers.

One day I'll grow up, surely?

I think that I have been in denial for the better part of 3 weeks that my little man is in fact growing up, that he is in fact 4 and that he is in fact, without a doubt his own person!

At the beginning of the month Kaleb started Kindy, at the local Primary School. To say he was excited about it would be an understatement, he was over the moon. To say I was excited would be an understatement, I too was over the moon, whilst being somewhat in denial.

I wasn't allowed to stay for more than 5 minutes he kept saying "Are you going yet Mummy?" & "Why haven't you gone yet Mum?", oh I felt the love.

He is enjoying it and I am enjoying it.

Has been so busy around here of late that I am not sure which is my tail & which is my head. Thankfully once the new site is up and running I might have more time to work this out, or to reattach myself to my machines.

We have been busy working behind the scenes on a new site, one that is easier to use, easier on the eyes & packed to the rafters (or is that screen) with new products.

We have been busy little beavers over at Woddle Bots creating up a storm in preparation for the change of seasons. Which given the current weather is a while off, we are looking down the barrel of some 40+ degree days so Winter is still sometime off.

A way for me to online window shop for local finds and share what I discover with my favourite people. Today I am going to share with you my finds that are doll related, a current obsession of my daughters.

{Market Update} January Mundaring Market

Another weekend, another market.

Thankfully the weather in Mundaring yesterday was much more barable and it saw people enjoying the fresh morning before the afternoon warmth arrived. We had a lovely day, all be it a little relaxing but the stall looked awesome with all our new products up on display.

Some of the library bags are loaded to Woddle Bots ready to make their way to your homes, the rest should be up by tonight, with the pencil cases, wetbags & adorable quilts following quickly behind.

Isn't your little one starting school for the first time scary, scary more so for you than for them. Kaleb starts Kindy in February and I know he is looking forward to it, I am looking forward to some peace & quiet but at the same time I do wonder how he will go.

New environment, longer days, new people and instructions from someone other than me.

Regardless we have some more products that will arrive online very shortly that will help you prepare for the new school year.

Sick of Rising Star Awards always relating to buff teenage footballer types?

Well, here at HMK we want to give a clever handcrafter this inaugural title!

We realise that it is hard for those of us starting out to have our products seen, heard and in some cases chewed on by the big wide world, and we want to give one newcomer the opportunity to reach a bigger audience.

What is the HMK Rising Star Award?

A store/individual can be nominated by self, friends, family, and colleagues for the 2010 HMK Rising Star Award.

The store/individual has to be:

(a) Located in Australia/New Zealand;

(b) Making/producing handcrafted items for kids or relevant to kids;

(d) In operation for two years or less.

What does the HMK Rising Star Winner receive?

The winner of this prestigious award receives:

(a) A sponsors banner listing for an entire year with HMK

(b) A store feature and an interview to be spaced over the year

valued at $380.

How do I nominate?

In order to nominate a store, you need to send an EMAIL to jemma@handmadekids.com.au with the heading title “NOMINATION“.

In that email tell us (hint: copy and paste the points below) -

Who you Nominate (provide URL); and
Why you nominate them.

The FIVE stores with the most nominations will go up for the big vote off. You can only nominate from each email address once.

Stores are permitted to nominate themelves.

When do nominations close?

Nominations close midnight on Australia Day (26th January 2009).

How is the winner chosen?

Once all the nominations are received and confirmed eligible, the Five top stores will be placed on Handmade Kids and voting will begin.

The store with the most votes during the voting period will be crowned HMK Rising Star.

If you want your store to receive colossal nominations, we suggest you get FB’ing, Tweeting, Emailing and Blogging. This is going to be BIG.

So I brought my daughter her first ever nappy, she has never had a purchased MCN before as she has always worn what I have made and seconds at that. Poor second child :)

I brought her one of the new ERO Cute Tooshies that are available from Bubblebubs and OMG I want more. More importantly I want some fabric so I can make her a matching outfit to show off her nappy.

We got the top one, Red Abstract and I think I want more.

Now off to find some fabric to make to make a matching dress.
